Sarah Huntsman is a
Wilmington native who is now an active participant in this town’s
music community.
After graduating Magna Cum Laude
from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a Bachelor
of Music in Music Education, she completed a Master of Music in
Music Therapy at Illinois State University in Normal, IL.
Sarah interned in Music Therapy at
Palmetto Health Baptist Medical Center in Columbia, SC where she was

five Mental Health floors at the hospital (children, adolescents, high-functioning
adults, low-functioning adults, and geriatric/medical psych).
During her internship, Sarah completed
her Thesis Project entitled “Music Therapy and Self Esteem: A
Manual of Lyric Analysis Techniques with Popular Songs for
Adolescents under Psychiatric Care,” containing three session plans
for each of the fifteen songs included in the manual.
When she returned to
Wilmington, Sarah was the Music Specialist at Carolina Beach
Elementary School for several years.
Since she founded her Music
Therapy Company, Coastal Music Therapy Services, in 2004, she has
practiced both privately and through agency contracts
around town, and is now thrilled to be able to offer services
through the Music School of Wilmington.
Sarah is an active
musician in Wilmington as the singer for The Sarah Sojourn Project.
She has also been active in the
theatre community for the past decade or so, playing trombone in the
pit orchestra for City Stage, Thalian Association, and
Opera House Theatre Company productions; she recently performed in
her first on-stage role as well.
