THOMAS GARNER
Piano/Keyboards, Drum Set
Applications, Guitar
Drummer Thomas Garner became interested in music at
a very early age, studying first piano and later
drums, guitar, and flute. During his high school
years he played marimba, flute, and double bass in
the school's marching and concert bands and guitar
in the jazz band. He was also a member of the
school's chorus, singing Baritone. Thomas also
played in various other musical situations
as a guitarist during this time, ranging from solo
classical guitar and small acoustic folk acts to
larger rock and popular bands playing both
covers and original material.
After graduating from high school, Thomas moved to Boston,
Massachusetts to attend
Berklee College of Music, where he decided to
devote himself to the drum set full time. He played
in many different bands during college which
included rock, jazz, Latin, funk, and some
big band material. The state of the art studio
facilities allowed him to acquire an extensive
amount of recording studio experience as well.
Thomas graduated from Berklee with a performance
degree and continued to live in Boston, performing and
teaching while continuing to grow as a musician as
he was surrounded by some of the best players
in the country in Boston and New York.
He has shared the stage with world
renowned jazz artists such as Larry Coryell, Buster
Williams, Bill Pierce, and George Garzone to
name a few. After many years of living up north and
enduring the harsh and relentless winters, Thomas
decided to move back to North Carolina in 2005,
eventually making his way to the Wilmington area where he
began to meet and play with many of the fine
musicians here in Wilmington. He thoroughly
enjoys living on the North Carolina coast, and
plans to stay here, playing, teaching,
and recording some original material in the near
future.
